After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” – Matthew 2:1-2
Christmas Joy
Christmas has always been my favorite time of the year. I pretty much love everything about it! The decorations, cookies, Christmas movies (yes, this includes Hallmark movies), going to see the lights at the zoo, and of course activities at church. I love to worship and celebrate our Savior’s birth, at church, with my family and friends! All these things bring me JOY!
I remember when I was a kid and I was so excited because the holidays were coming up and I knew that we had some exciting and fun things planned. Traditions are special!
We knew what to expect and it was exciting. I loved decorating cookies, going through neighborhoods to see the lights, and one of my favorite things was Christmas Eve Service. I loved lighting a candle and singing Christmas carols and listening to the story of Christ’s birth. Then, we’d head home to open a gift on Christmas Eve (which was always pajamas). Those are memories that I’ll always treasure!
Now that I have a family of my own, I carry on those traditions, and have added a few of my own. I will admit, when Nov. 1st comes around, I’m in full blown Christmas mode. Bring it on!
I know that this year will look a little different due to Covid. But, I’m determined not to let that damper my spirit and carry on traditions and memories best we can. In fact, it’s an opportunity to make new ones! But, one thing we will always try to focus on is worshipping Jesus. Like the Wise men, I want to seek Him. I want my boys to see that we will continue to celebrate the birth of Jesus and worship Him!
This Christmas at The Church Next Door
This Christmas, at The Church Next Door, we have so many exciting things going on!
- Dec. 6th- Live Reindeer and Sleigh. Plus, we’ll have a big Polar Bear Slide for the kids!
- Dec. 13th- Ice Skating rink!
- Dec. 20th- Nativity Animals and the Christmas Train!
- Dec. 24th- 4 opportunities to attend Christmas Eve Services!
Bring the whole family for a safe and fun worship experience all month long. Children 3yrs-6th grade will have a great time in their classrooms while parents worship in the sanctuary. Then, afterward, everyone can enjoy these fun activities. On Christmas Eve, everyone will stay together and celebrate as a family!
What are some ways you celebrate Christmas? How do you worship Jesus, especially this time of year? I’d love to hear your family traditions. And I hope to see you at one of our services!
Christmas Blessings,
